Learn the Art of Upholstery with Historic Techniques

Course Overview:

Immerse yourself in the elegance and craftsmanship of 18th Century France through this hands-on 5-day upholstery course. Under expert guidance, students will explore the intricate processes involved in upholstering three distinct styles of chair backs: médaillon, écoinçon, and violonné. Each style presents unique challenges and techniques, offering a comprehensive learning experience for upholstery enthusiasts.

What You’ll Learn:

• Médaillon Chair Back: Discover the techniques behind the classic round or oval upholstered backs, typical of the Louis XVI style.

• Écoinçons Chair Back: Master the art of upholstering these trapezoid back allowing you to work with a so-called "en sifflet” profile: inclined at 45°

• Violonné Chair Back: Engage with the complex, violin-shaped chair backs that highlight the curves and elegance of 18th-century design.

Course Details:

• Duration: 5 days

• Focus: Practical, hands-on learning with a deep dive into traditional French upholstery methods.

• Location: Seabrook Farm, Cheddington, LU7 9AB, Buckinghamshire

• Dates: 7th-11th October 2024 , 9.30 am - 4.30 pm .

During this 5 day course students will focus on upholstery processes required in order to create a French Squab Cushion whilst acquiring stitching techniques which accompany this.

Ideally the course is for students who have some basic knowledge of upholstery.

This course is for 9 students only and will be booked on a first come first served basis.

Course Dates: 3rd - 7th April 2023

Course fees: £625

Each Day will start at 9.30am and finish at 4.30pm.
